We Accept Gifts
The Portsmouth Poet Laureate
Program is run entirely by volunteers and is supported by grants from
non-profit foundations and gifts from local businesses and individuals. In addition to
providing an
honorarium for the Poet Laureate, the program must raise funds to support the wide variety
of events it
offers and projects it sponsors, almost all of which are free to the public. Initial
funding came from the
New England Foundation for the Arts, followed by
several years of support from generous local business people, who have underwritten basic
operating costs. We have received grants for individual projects from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts with
support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New Hampshire Humanities Council and the Greater Piscataqua Community Foundation (GPCF).
Strengthening
To ensure that we can continue to build on past successes and to firmly establish the
Portsmouth Poet Laureate Program for the future, it is essential that we build a permanent
endowment. Interest income from the endowment will cover annual operating expenses,
eliminating the need to raise funds for basic expenses. Our goal is to double the existing
endowment of $20,000, which is managed by the Greater Piscataqua Community Foundation.
How Much Can You
Give?
Giving is as personal and individual as donors themselves. Some monetary gifts
we've received fall into these ranges and we are grateful to all. Whatever the dollar
amount, consider your gift a significant contribution towards our goal.
