Seven poems are permanently installed as public art along the Piscataqua River and in the city parking garage as part of Robert Dunn's Poetry in Public Places project.

The existence of the Poet Laureate Program has helped gain attention for other arts groups in the city and created a thriving climate for poetry readings. The program serves as a reminder to Portsmouth citizens that their hometown celebrates the accomplishments of its talented artists.
